Description
This house, built in 1692, is located in the grounds west of Newton Hall. It is constructed from sandstone rubble and has a tile roof, featuring two storeys. The design is symmetrical, with two bays on each side of a central two-storey gabled porch, which has a drip course above the ground floor.
To the left of the porch, there are ground floor windows with two lights and three lights. On the first floor, the left-hand window has been blocked, while the remaining window has three lights. To the right of the porch, the left-hand bay contains windows with three lights, and the right-hand bay has a two-light window with a one-light window above it. The first floor porch window has two lights.
The studded door is framed by a moulded surround and features an embattled lintel inscribed with 'MN [Miles North] 1692'. The gables are topped with copings and kneelers, and there are gable chimneys, with the right-hand chimney having a projecting stack. Inside, the right-hand room includes an original stone fireplace, with its jambs designed as primitive pilasters.
