Description
Tarnsyke Cottage is a house, likely built in the mid-to-late 19th century, with some remains from the 17th century. It is constructed of sandstone rubble and has a roof made of slate and stone slate. The building has two storeys and the main facade features two bays with windows that have plain stone surrounds. The left-hand ground-floor window is a sash, while the others are modern. The door, located between the bays, has a chamfered surround and a battlemented lintel. To the right of the door is a window that is set within a blocked door. Further to the right, there is a lower section of the building that contains a blocked door and a small blocked window, both with plain reveals. On the first floor of this section, there are two small windows with plain reveals.
Chimneys are present on both the right-hand and left-hand gables of the main house. The rear of the main house has two bays featuring rebated and chamfered mullioned windows, some of which have been retooled. These windows are typically of two lights, except for the left-hand one on the first floor, which has three lights. Between the bays, there is a one-light stair window. To the left of the rear facade, there is a blocked door with plain reveals and a first-floor window that has a cement surround. The lower part of the building to the left includes a window and door with plain reveals, and on the first floor, there is another window with plain reveals.
