Description
York Lodge is a lodge built around 1890, likely designed by Douglas, serving Abbeystead. It is constructed of sandstone rubble and features a hipped slate roof with gablets. The building is a single storey. The windows are rebated and chamfered, with mullions. The north-east wall, which faces the road, includes a hipped projecting wing that has a 2-light window on its front wall. To the left of this wing is a doorway with a chamfered surround. There is a chimney aligned with the wing, set back behind the ridge. The left-hand return wall, which faces the drive, has a canted bay window topped with its own hipped roof, along with a 2-light window positioned slightly to the right.
