Description

The terrace retaining wall with balustrade and steps located south of Abbeystead was likely built in 1887 by Douglas. It features a buttressed wall made of sandstone rubble, topped with chamfered balusters that have a rectangular shape, creating round-arched openings beneath a coping. The end piers are square and mostly topped with ball finials. There are flights of stone steps at each end and in the middle of the wall.
