Description
The war memorial, built around 1920, is located approximately 5 metres north of Christ Church on Wyresdale Road in Lancaster. It is made of sandstone and features an octagonal plinth set against a sloping bank. The west side of the plinth is inscribed with the words: '1914 - 1919 IN LASTING MEMORY OF GLORIOUS DEEDS AND NOBLE ENDURANCE'. Above the plinth are two octagonal steps that support a square base, which is adorned with crocketed diagonal buttresses.
On the west side of the base, there is a carved crucifix with the inscription: 'For all Mankind'. The east side features a carving of a child and two standing figures, inscribed with the words: 'Lent to the Lord'. The south side bears the inscription: 'I am the resurrection and the life', while the north side is inscribed: 'AMDG in honour of the Parishioners of Christ Church who gave their lives for King and Country in the Worlds War 1914-1919'. The memorial is topped with a tapering octagonal shaft that has a foliated capital supporting a cross fleury.
