Description

This structure is a wall with three gateways, located approximately 90 metres south-east of No. 56 on Main Street in Hornby-with-Farleton. It is likely from the mid-19th century and served as a former entrance to the grounds of Hornby Castle. The wall is made of sandstone rubble and features coping. It has a central wide entrance with a chamfered surround and a Tudor arch, which is flanked by two smaller gateways that are similar in design. Above the central archway, there is a re-set stone that is carved with an eagle's claw and the date '1660'.
