Description

The War Memorial, located on Main Street in Hornby-with-Farleton, was erected in 1920 and incorporates medieval remains. It is constructed from sandstone and features a chamfered octagonal cross base, which has been moved from its original location in front of the now-demolished Town Hall. The memorial stands on two steps with a square plan. Above the base is a tapering octagonal shaft, also from 1920, topped with a square-headed gable that is intricately carved with figures. The memorial is crowned by a cross. On the east side of the octagonal base, there is a plaque that reads: 'Re-erected in 1920 to the Heroes of the Parish of Hornby.' A plaque on the west side commemorates those who died in the 1939-45 war.
