Description

Hornby Hall Cottage is a house that was once part of Hornby Hall, which was demolished in the mid-20th century after a fire. The cottage dates from the mid-18th century and is constructed of sandstone rubble with a hipped tile roof. It has two storeys, and the south wall features chamfered quoins. The windows have stone surrounds with a slight chamfer. To the left of the door, there is a triple window; the right-hand light is sashed, while the other two are blocked. The first floor is blank. To the right of the door, there is a taller stair window, now fitted with modern glazing, and next to it is a double sashed window with glazing bars. On the first floor, there is another window with glazing bars. An eaves cornice is present to the right of the door, while to the left, the cornice has been cut back, although a blocking course remains. The wall also has blocked openings. There are chimneys located to the left of the door and on the right-hand wall. The west wall, which has two bays, is rendered and features chamfered quoins and a cornice with a blocking course. The ground-floor windows are sashed with plain reveals, while the upper windows have stone surrounds with a slight chamfer.
