Description
The Royal Oak Hotel is a public house built in 1781. It is constructed from watershot sandstone and features a tiled roof. The main section has two storeys with an attic and consists of two bays. The windows are sashed and have cyma-moulded stone surrounds. The entrance door, located between the bays, also has a similar stone surround. Above the door, there is an oval plaque inscribed with 'William & Emma Gelderd 1781'. The building has gable chimneys, and the left-hand gable includes coping with a kneeler. To the right, there is a lower section, built in the same style, which is also two storeys high. The ground floor of this section was altered around 1980 and features two modern mullioned windows. Between these windows is a wide entrance with a stone lintel. On the first floor, there are two sashed windows with glazing bars and cyma-moulded surrounds.
