Description
This barn, located approximately 50 metres east of Bradleys Farmhouse, dates back to 1737 and features an integral shippon. It is constructed from coursed sandstone rubble with quoins and has a slate roof. The building has an irregular T-plan with unequal outshuts on both sides of the shippon at the lower west end, while the barn is situated at a higher level to the east.
The broad west gable wall, which includes the outshuts, has eaves on the north side that extend down to about 2 metres above ground level. This wall features three shippon doors, all offset to the left, each with chamfered surrounds. There are also three windows in this section, a loading door at loft level in the centre, a square datestone inscribed with "N N.E.T. 1737," and a square owl-hole.
On the south side, there is a chamfered doorway leading to a small outshut, likely used as a stable, another door to the second bay, two windows, and a wagon door porch with a roof that extends down. Additionally, there are some slit breathers. The north side has an exceptionally large outshut in the western half, which is covered by a catslide roof and features three casement windows in its outer wall. The rest of this wall and the east gable are obscured by later additions.
Inside the shippon end, the loft floor is supported by wooden beams that rest on wooden saddles, which are in turn supported by short posts rising from iron columns.
