Description
This barn, located approximately 30 metres west of Wheelton House, is dated 1739 (or possibly 1759) and features an integral shippon. It is constructed from coursed squared sandstone with quoins and has a graduated stone slate roof. The barn consists of five bays, with the shippon situated at the south end and central opposed wagon entrances that are broader than those at the north end.
On the east side, which faces the house, there is a doorway at the right-hand end with long and short jambs and a rectangular lintel inscribed "Henry Livsay 1739" (or 1759). Below a carried-down roof is a central wagon entrance, and to the left of it are three squared windows. The west side mirrors this with similar windows in the same positions, a square loading door above, and slit breathers in the northern half.
The south gable wall has a doorway at each corner with large jambstones and a square window in the centre featuring a stool for a mullion. The north gable has water tabling on two levels. Inside, the roof comprises three kingpost trusses with Y-struts and angle struts, supported by three pairs of purlins, and there is a loft over the shippon.
