Description
Burnley Lane Baptist Church Hall, originally built as a Baptist Sunday School, dates from 1872, as indicated in the pediment. The building has been altered internally due to recent fire damage. It is constructed from coursed rock-faced sandstone rubble with freestone dressings and has a slate roof. The hall has a rectangular plan with a gable facing the road and stands two storeys high.
The façade features a symmetrical arrangement of windows in three bays, with banded corner pilasters and a pedimental gable. Each bay's openings are set within full-height recesses. The central bay has paired round-headed doorways at ground level, which have chamfered surrounds, carved spandrels, and a cornice supported by brackets. One doorway is blocked, while the other has an altered door. Above, there are paired round-headed windows with hollow spandrels, large keystones, and a similar cornice. The outer bays contain rectangular windows at ground level and round-headed windows above, also featuring keystones and hollow spandrels.
The pediment displays a large former clock-face, which is missing its hands, along with faded painted Roman numerals and a circular stone surround that bears similarly faded lettering: "EBENEZER SCHOOLS / AD 1872". The side walls have seven windows, with square-headed windows at ground level and round-headed windows above. The interior has not been inspected. This building forms a group with the Burnley Lane Baptist Church and Institute to the north, to which it is now connected.
