Description
Gannow House is a house built around 1797, originally constructed as a residence for the engineer of the Leeds-Liverpool Canal, Samuel Fletcher. The building features coursed squared sandstone rubble and a stone slate roof. It has a rectangular double-depth, double-fronted plan with two storeys and three windows, presenting a symmetrical south front that faces the canal.
The central doorway has a plain surround but is now covered by a shallow 20th-century gabled porch. Above the doorway, there is a 1-light window, and on each floor, there are two 3-light windows. All windows have square-cut flush mullions, raised sills, and plain lintels, although the glazing has been altered. The house also includes small moulded stone gutter brackets and gable chimneys.
At the rear, there is a central doorway and a tall round-headed stair-window above it, which has restored radiating glazing bars. To the left at ground floor, there is a narrow window, and on each floor, there are two vertical-rectangular windows, all with plain surrounds. The right ground floor window features shutter lugs. The interior has not been inspected. Gannow House forms a group with the associated former stable and coach-house, No. 108A.
