Description

Club House Farmhouse is a 17th-century house located on Wigan Road in Shevington. The building features painted stone rubble with a slate roof and stands two storeys high with four bays. The first bay projects forward under a gable, while the fourth bay is an extension. A notable feature is the five-light double-chamfered-mullioned window with a transom and label mould in the second bay of the ground floor, which has leaded glazing with rectangular quarries in the upper lights. The first and fourth bays have French windows. On the first floor, there are 20th-century casement windows, with the window in the first bay having a vertical opening. The first bay also has a gable-end stack, and there is a cross-axial stack as well. The right return wall is made of brick. At the rear, there is a mullioned and transomed window along with an entrance that features a 20th-century porch. Inside, the farmhouse has ovolo-moulded beams and a bressumer, with one end of the bressumer resting on a stone corbel. There is a timber-framed internal wall that shows carpenters' marks and has wattle and daub infill panels. The former end wall includes a timber three-light diagonal mullion window frame. The painted glass quarry on the building reads "SPF/TP/1663," indicating the names Seth and Frances Prescot.
