Description

A terrace of four houses, built in 1862, located in Haigh, near Standish. The houses were originally built for a dye works company. They are constructed with stucco, incorporating pebble-dash detailing, and have slate roofs. The houses are two storeys high and six bays wide. The first floor is pebble-dashed with stucco strips marking the corners; wide eaves and verges contribute to the appearance. The windows have chamfered reveals and label moulds, with the upper floor windows featuring continuous moulds. They are fitted with three-light horizontally sliding sashes. The entrances also have label moulds. Numbers 5 and 8 have casement windows and entrances to their side returns. The building features cross-axial chimney stacks. An interesting example of early housing for workers.
