Description

9 and 10 Lakeside Cottages are a pair of houses built in 1862 for a dye works company. They are constructed of stucco with pebble-dash and feature a slate roof. The buildings are two storeys high with two gabled bays, and the returns have gabled projections. The first floor is pebble-dashed with stucco strips at the corners. They have wide eaves and verges, plain barge boards, and a finial. The windows have chamfered reveals and label moulds; No. 9 has sash windows with vertical glazing bars, while No. 10 has casement windows. The entrances to the return projections also feature label moulds, and there is a central stack. This pair is an interesting example of early workers' housing.
