Description

Scriven House, along with The Hollies, Farwood, and an adjoining shop, represents a group of houses dating from the early 19th century. The buildings are constructed of red brick with slate and 20th-century concrete tile roofs. Scriven House itself is a two-storey, two-bay structure with a hipped roof and a central side entrance. The Ridge element projects considerably and has three storeys, with a gable facing the road. The other houses and shop, which appear to be of the same date, are set back in an irregular arrangement and feature both hipped and gabled roofs. Scriven House has a stone plinth and a plain eaves cornice, incorporating two slightly advanced bays with 6-pane sash windows on each floor. These windows have stone sills and flat brick arches. The side entrance is recessed and features a 4-panel door with a fanlight above. The remaining buildings in the group have various sash windows, each with cambered brick arches and stone sills, and generally retain glazing bars.
