Description

This milestone is an early 19th-century sandstone pillar that stands approximately 1.5 metres high. It features two inscribed faces; one side indicates "5 miles to Manchester," while the other states "1 mile to Ashton." Originally located at a different site, it was moved and reinstated near its original location in August 2000. The milestone serves the A635 road, which is thought to have been turnpiked in 1824.
