Description
Townscliffe Cottage, originally a farmhouse, dates from the late 17th century with a 19th-century wing. It is constructed of squared rubble with stone dressings and features a graduated stone slate roof. The building has a three-unit baffle-entry plan and is two storeys high throughout. The house is flanked by projecting crosswings with quoins. There is a former door, now blocked, next to the right crosswing, which has a chamfered surround and a shaped lintel. A 19th-century door, with a four-panel design and a moulded surround, is located next to the left crosswing. Each floor has a two-light casement window situated between the doors. The 19th-century wing includes sash windows on both floors, featuring wedge lintels and stone sills. The building has a total of three chimney stacks and a lean-to garage attached to the left gable. The left crosswing extends to the rear, constructed in rock-faced stone, and a patio door has been inserted at the back of the house part.
