Description
The barn at Pear Tree Farm is a 17th century or earlier structure that has been partly converted into studios. It features a cruck frame with rubble walls and a graduated stone slate roof. Originally, it had a longer range of farm buildings, but now only five bays remain. Most of the wall openings date from the 20th century, except for a loft hatch in the gable and a door to the aisle. The first two bays, now used as a studio, contain three cruck trusses. The third to fifth bays are built at a higher level and include an aisle at the rear of the fourth and fifth bays, featuring a total of four cruck trusses. All crucks are closed and include collar ties, collar yokes, and wind bracing, supporting the original roof structure.
