Description

ECCLES MONTON GREEN SJ 79 NE (north side) 4/11 Lychgate at Monton - Unitarian Church G.V. II Lychgate. "Erected 1895" inscribed on rear. Possibly by T.Worthington. Ashlar with cast-iron gates. Gables to front and rear above a pointed archway. Gothic Revival. The arch is heavily moulded and has side colonnettes and a hoodmould with carved angelic stops. Within the coped gable is a carved figure within a canopied niche above an inscription: "In memory of Henry Leigh". Cross finials. 2 weathered and gableted buttresses to either side. Elaborate cast-iron gates.
