Description

Sindsley House is a house built in 1715, with alterations and additions made in the early 19th century. It is constructed of Flemish bond brick and features a graduated stone slate roof. The building has a double-depth central-entrance plan, consisting of three bays and two storeys, with additions on each side.

The front of the house, which was originally symmetrical, now includes a gabled 19th-century wing in the first bay and a gabled 19th-century porch. The wing and the ground floor window in the third bay feature 19th-century three-light timber mullioned casements with stone sills and flat brick arches. The central first-floor window and the window in the third bay are original, showcasing mullion and transom casements with keystone arches, segmental in the former and flat in the latter. The central bay is slightly advanced, with an ornate datestone that is off-centre to the right. The house has large axial ridge chimney stacks.

On the left side, there are 19th-century canted bays on the ground floor, while the upper floors retain original three and six-light mullion and transom casements. There is a later wing at the rear left and additional structures on the right. Inside, there is a closed string staircase featuring a pulvinated frieze, a swept moulded handrail, and turned balusters and newels with sunk panels.
