Description

The railway bridge over Worsley Road is a structure built in the late 1820s by George Stephenson for the Liverpool and Manchester Railway Company. It is constructed of brick with ashlar dressings and features a single-span skew design. The segmental skew arch is supported by rusticated voussoirs that spring from impost bands. These bands continue at the top of the arch and at the base of the parapet, extending along the flat pilasters on either side. The original curved retaining walls and railings are also part of the bridge's design. The south side of the bridge is obscured by a later bridge that is not included in this listing.
