Description

Spotland Methodist Church is a church built in 1896, featuring a brick structure with ashlar dressings and a slate roof. The chapel has a central entrance that leads to a hall providing access to a three-sided gallery, with ancillary rooms located at the rear. The building has five bays, with a rectangular pediment above the central three bays supported by Corinthian columns. It also features giant rusticated corner pilasters and a stone plinth. The open segmental pediment includes a central cartouche above a semi-circular headed door, which is adorned with an elaborate fanlight and lugged architraved lights on either side. The side bays are constructed in brick and have tall pedimented windows.

The six-bay side elevation showcases tall semi-circular headed lights with keystones, a corbelled sill band, and a stone plinth. This elevation is capped by a prominent open segmental pedimented vestry block that projects outward and features a tripartite classical window along with rusticated giant pilasters. Inside, the stepped panelled gallery parapet is supported by cast iron columns with foliated capitals. The interior furnishings, including the pews, screens, doorcases, organ, pulpit, and altar rail, are all designed to harmonize with the overall style of the building.
