Description

SD 81 SE ROCHDALE ROOLEY MOOR ROAD (west side) 6/97 Spotland Methodist Church G.V. II

Church. 1896 on foundation stone. Brick with ashlar dressings and slate roof. Chapel has central entrance and hall giving access to 3-sided gallery, ancillary rooms to rear. 5-bay with rectangular pediment over central 3 supported on Corinthian columns; giant rusticated corner pilasters and stone plinth; open segmental pediment with central cartouche to semi-circular headed door with elaborate fanlight and lugged architraved lights to either side. Only the side bays are in brick with tall pedimented windows. The 6-bay side elevation has tall semi-circular headed lights with keystones, corbelled sill band and stone plinth and is terminated by a massive open segmental pedimented vestry block which projects and has a tripartite classical window and rusticated giant pilasters. Interior: stepped panelled gallery parapet is supported on cast iron columns with foliated capitals. Pews, screens, doorcases, organ, pulpit and altar rail are all in keeping with the building.
