Description
Old Falinge is a house dating to 1721, with a rainwater head dated 1724. It is constructed of hammer-dressed stone with a stone slate roof, with a rear wing in brick. Originally, the house comprised two rooms flanking a large central entrance and staircase hall, extending over two storeys and incorporating an attic. In the 18th century, a bay was added to the left, matching the original style and materials, and a brick wing was added to the rear, which was subsequently altered and extended. The house presents five bays; the original four-bay sections feature six three-light, flat-faced mullion and transom windows, all with continuous hoodmoulds. A later bay window replaces one section. The front door, located in the third bay, has a moulded surround and an inscribed lintel. The added left-hand bay has six- and four-light timber mullioned and transomed windows. The building is characterised by a modillion eaves cornice, coped gables, and five ridge chimney stacks with cornices. Various two, three, and four-light mullion and transom windows are found on the rear and sides. The brick wing has flat-faced five-light mullioned windows, some with leaded lights. The interior was not inspected and is reported to be of little significant interest.
