Description

SD 91 NW LITTLEBOROUGH BLACKSTONE EDGE OLD ROAD (south side)

1/6 Higher Windy Bank - Farmhouse and adjoining barn

  • II Farmhouse and barn. Late C17 with C18 alterations and C19 barn. Hammer-dressed stone with graduated stone slate roof. 2-bay 2-storey house with barn to right. Quoins and projecting plinth. Central porch has cyma-moulded door surround, obtuse-angled lintel and a coped parapet with corner dies above a band on the same lines as that at Old Bent House (q.v.) which is dated 1691 and was built by Joseph Buckley. Right bay is obscured by a later outshut addition with 1 and 3-light flat-faced windows, the left bay has 4-light flat-faced mullion window on each floor (with 1 light blocked) but has a hoodmould of a former C17 window. Diagonally set shafts to gable chimney stacks, that to right projecting. Right gable has two 2-light double-chamfered windows. Rear with eaves raised is obscured by large addition. The barn uses watershot stone and has a round- headed cart entry, a segmental-headed shippon door and other door and window openings.
