Description

The barn at Windy Bank Farmhouse dates from the 17th century or earlier, with stone cladding added in the 18th century. It features some timber framing and is constructed of coursed stone with quoins. The roof is made of stone slate, covered with bitumen. Originally, there were two outshuts leading to a courtyard, but these have now been modified, and the central carriage entrance has been filled in. The barn has four internal trusses with extended king posts reaching the ridge and struts. While some wall plates remain intact, only two posts are visible: one is encased, and the other is free-standing with an aisle tie to the outshut. There is very little longitudinal bracing present.
