Description

SD 91 NW LITTLEBOROUGH WHITTAKER 1/72 Former farmhouse west of Whittaker - Farmhouse

G.V. II Farmhouse, more recently used as a piggery. Last quarter C17. Dressed stone with graduated stone slate roof. 3-unit 2-storey plan which was extended by 2 bays to right in mid C18 and with parallel ranges at rear in later C18. Quoins and projecting plinth. Gabled single-storey porch between bays 1 and 2 has initials and 1717 scratched on jamb. The original house has 2, 5 and 3-light double-chamfered stone mullion windows with hoodmoulds (the former with mullion removed). Similar 2, 3 and 3-light first floor windows but all with mullions removed. Coped gables with kneelers. The addition to right has 4 and 3-light chamfered mullion windows on each floor and on either side of a gabled porch wing. Two 2-storey ranges added at the rear were probably used as separate dwellings and flank an open lean-to shelter. Interior much altered although the layout and basic structure (including roof) remain.
