Description
This former farmhouse, located west of Whittaker Farmhouse, dates from the last quarter of the 17th century and has more recently been used as a piggery. It is constructed of dressed stone with a graduated stone slate roof. The building features a three-unit, two-storey plan that was extended by two bays to the right in the mid-18th century, along with parallel ranges added at the rear in the later 18th century. Notable architectural details include quoins and a projecting plinth.
A gabled single-storey porch is situated between the first and second bays, with initials and the year 1717 scratched on the jamb. The original house has two, five, and three-light double-chamfered stone mullion windows with hoodmoulds, although one mullion has been removed. The first floor features similar two, three, and three-light windows, but all have had their mullions removed. The gables are coped and include kneelers. The right-side addition contains four and three-light chamfered mullion windows on each floor, flanking a gabled porch wing. At the rear, two two-storey ranges were likely used as separate dwellings and flank an open lean-to shelter. The interior has been significantly altered, but the layout and basic structure, including the roof, remain intact.
