Description

East Clint is a farmhouse, later adapted for residential use, dating to the early 18th century. It was enlarged and altered subsequently. The exterior is constructed of mixed random rubble with quoins, now painted white, and has a roof of stone slate with ridge tiles. The original layout was a single-depth, two-unit plan facing north, with a staircase outshut to the rear of the second unit and a later addition to the west.

The main facade originally had four windows, although this relates only to the original range. A stone slate drip-course runs over the ground floor, rising above a porch added around 1948, which has a crow-stepped parapet and protects a square-headed doorway. The ground floor also originally featured a large square-headed window with a massive lintel and coupled four-pane glazing, an eight-pane window to the right, and a smaller four-pane window, formerly a fire-window. The first floor had windows of 6, 6, 8 panes, and a narrow single-light window. All windows are now top-hung casements, replacing sashes, and have replica glazing bars. The western addition has two small two-light casements to the ground floor. A gable chimney is located to the left, and a corbelled chimney is at the former gable of the right-hand side (corbels are visible within the extension). The rear elevation incorporates a full-height two-window outshut.

Inside, the layout retains the original two-unit plan, with a stone lateral partition wall dividing a housepart to the right from a parlour to the left. An inserted lateral partition creates an entrance passage. A stone chimney-breast is in the housepart, and a square spice cupboard, with a fielded panel door inscribed "B/M E/1727," is located to the right. The dog-legged staircase has renewed joinery. The building forms a group with the barn to the northwest.
