Description

Gibbs Hall is a derelict farmhouse located in Dentdale, likely built in the late 17th century or early 18th century. The building has been altered and recently consolidated as a ruin. It is constructed from roughly coursed sandstone rubble with quoins and features through-stones in the west gable. The layout consists of a single-depth, two-unit plan oriented east-west, facing south, with a shallow staircase outshut at the rear of the second unit.

The exterior has two storeys and three windows. The side walls and pitched stone slate water-tabling are remnants of a former gabled porch that is offset to the right. There are two rectangular windows on the left and one on the right, each with stone slate drip-courses above. The first floor features a restored square window opening on the left and two 2-light windows with segmental-arched lights, although all the windows currently lack joinery. The left gable shows the base of a corbelled chimney, while the rear outshut includes a 2-light chamfered flush mullion window on each floor.

Internally, the building lacks partitions and an upper floor but retains a doorway leading to the former staircase and two doorways on the first floor. There is some evidence of recent partial rebuilding. Gibbs Hall forms a group with Gibbs Hall Farmhouse and the adjacent K6 telephone kiosk, while the former barn to the southeast has been converted into a dwelling and is no longer of special interest.
