Description
No. 2 Saddleworth Fold is a house and cottage that have been combined into one residence. The datestone shows "IRM 1699," but there have been alterations made at later dates. The building is constructed from hammer-dressed stone and features a graduated stone slate roof. It has a 2-unit plan with a gable entrance, and a cottage was added to the left. A two-storey wing has been added to the rear, along with a 20th-century porch.
The structure has a projecting plinth and quoins. On the ground floor, there are double-chamfered, cavetto-moulded stone mullion windows with 2, 4, and 3 lights, and a later window has been inserted between the 2-light and 4-light windows. The first floor features a 6-light recessed flat-faced stone mullion window and a 2-light double-chamfered window. The eaves have been raised. The former cottage on the left has a square-cut door surround, with a 3-light window on the ground floor and a 4-light window on the first floor, along with quoins. There are two ridge chimney stacks, both of which have been rebuilt in brick. A lean-to porch obscures the gable entrance. The rear wing, which is of a later date, includes 2, 3, and 4-light windows.
