Description

The Hearse House, located south of the Church of St. Chad, was built in 1824 and is attributed to James Taylor and George Ogden, who were the wardens at the time. The building features an arched stone inscription in the gable that reads "Know Thyself." It is constructed of ashlar with watershot stone on the sides and rear, topped by a graduated stone slate roof. There are two hearse bays, each with pointed arch doors. The gable is coped and includes a carved finial. Additionally, there are pointed arch windows on the sides and rear, with the rear window retaining interlaced glazing bars.
