Description

The village stocks located outside St. Chad's Church in Uppermill date back to 1698, as indicated by the inscription "IW HW 1698" on the posts. These stocks are made of stone and feature replaced timber foot restraints. Each stone post has a cylindrical-shaped head with concentric circles carved into the outer faces, and the date is displayed on the front faces. The stocks are referenced in J. Bradbury's "Saddleworth Sketches."
