Description
Kirklea is a vicarage, later converted into a house, dating from circa 1825, with an addition constructed in the late 19th century. It is built of watershot, hammer-dressed stone with a graduated stone slate roof. The house has a double-depth, central-staircase plan and is arranged over two storeys, with a gabled addition to the right. It comprises three bays, with a projecting plinth and eaves cornice. A central porch features an obtuse-angled lintel above an ovolo-moulded door surround, surmounted by a coped gable with a ball finial. The ground floor has two windows, while the first floor has three, all with pointed arch, square-cut surrounds and casements featuring interlaced glazing bars. Similar windows are present to the sides and rear, which also has a tall stair window. Gable stacks are visible. The later addition is set back and has a coped gable with kneelers. The interior retains six-panel doors and an arched glazed screen with interlaced bars that separates the stair hall from the outer hall.
