Description

A shipping warehouse, likely built in the mid to later 19th century and subsequently altered. The building is constructed of red brick with a facade of coursed sandstone rubble, and the roof is hidden. It has a long, rectangular plan, oriented at right angles to Chorlton Street and parallel to the Rochdale Canal at Lock No. 86. The warehouse has a basement and four storeys, with a four-window facade. It features rusticated quoins, sill bands to the upper floors, a moulded cornice, and a low parapet. A round-headed doorway is located on the left side, with a rusticated surround and internal steps leading up to it. There is a small basement door next to the doorway, accompanied by two basement windows with honeycomb grills. The upper floor windows are 2-light casements with moulded architraves, although the top floor windows have been altered. The left return side, which overlooks the canal, has windows with flat-arched heads. The interior remains uninspected. The building forms a group with canal lock No. 86 and No. 47 (Minshull House) to the right.
