Description

No. 11 Bloom Street is a mid to late 19th-century building that originally served as various warehouses and a pattern card factory, and is now home to several offices. The structure features some sandstone ashlar but is predominantly constructed of red brick in Flemish bond with sandstone dressings, and the roof is concealed. It has a square plan that includes a through loading bay on the left side. The building has a basement and four storeys, with an eight-window facade that is accentuated by channelled corner pilasters.

The ground floor is made of sandstone ashlar and includes a round-headed doorway on the right with a keyed moulded surround and a dentilled cornice. There is also a rectangular loading entrance at the left end with a channelled surround, and almost continuous fenestration between these openings, which is framed by an unusual colonnaded screen of square columns featuring a plain frieze and moulded cornice. The upper floors are fitted with sashed windows; the first-floor windows have triangular-headed lintels, while the second-floor windows have gauged brick heads, although the windows above were concealed at the time of the survey.

At the rear, facing Richmond Street, there is a loading entrance on the right-hand end with convex sandstone jambs that have raised rock-faced bands, along with a thin iron lintel under a relieving arch and segmental-headed windows. The loading bay side features a well between the front and rear ranges, topped with a glazed roof that protects the passage. Inside, the building includes iron columns and wooden beams, as well as a curved wooden staircase. This property forms a group with No. 8 and No. 10 Minshull Street.
