Description

Gauxholme Canal Warehouse is a late 18th-century canal warehouse located on the south side of Bacup Road, facing the Rochdale Canal. The building is constructed of watershot masonry with ashlar quoins and a band, topped with a slate roof. It stands 2½ storeys tall and features a symmetrical canal front with a semi-circular arched entry leading to the wet-dock. The front has three bays of windows with plain stone surrounds on the first and attic floors, and a Venetian window at the apex. The right-hand return wall includes five bays of similar windows on the first floor and a segmental arched doorway in the fourth bay. The left-hand return wall has a similar window arrangement but is altered by the insertion of a large metal door. The gables are coped and have slight kneelers.
