Description
Gauxholme Viaduct is a railway viaduct built in 1840 by George Stephenson. It is constructed of rough dressed stone with ashlar dressing. The structure features 17 segmental arches, each with rusticated voussoirs that align with the stone courses. A moulded impost is supported by tapered piers, which have weathered plinths, all showcasing rusticated stonework on their outer faces. Above the arches, there is a deeply roll moulded band topped with a parapet. The outer wall of the archway over Bacup Road includes a projecting splayed buttress and a curving ramped wall leading to the embankment.
