Description
Calrows Farmhouse is a Grade II listed building, with a date inscribed on a moulded, carved panel above the upper bedroom windows reading "Stanley/P/LM/1710/Derby," although parts of the structure may be older. The main section of the farmhouse faces south at a right angle to the road and features regularly coursed stone walls. It is two storeys high. The front elevation was rebuilt around 1982 and now includes a new four-light mullioned window with a dripstone on both the first and ground floors, flanking a central doorway that has an old date plaque above it. Previously, this elevation had an old three and four-light mullioned window above and a sash window along with an altered window below. The central doorway is complemented by another doorway with a removed shouldered lintel and a decorated cornice. Brick gable chimneys are present.
On the rear elevation, there is an old central two-light mullioned and transomed window, with the lower part of the mullion now made of timber. To the left, there is an old three-light mullioned window on the first floor and an old four-light mullioned window on the ground floor. To the right, there is an old three-light mullioned window with leaded lights on the first floor and a three-light window below, adjacent to a doorway. There is likely an 18th-century brick wing attached to the west. Coins from the 17th century are said to have been found under the floor of the house. Of lesser interest is a two-storey wing at a right angle to the west of the front, which is probably early 19th century but has been partially rebuilt in the late Victorian period. This wing features paired sash windows above and below in its east elevation and has a hipped stone slab roof.
