Description

This milestone, located approximately 60 meters east of Prestolee Road, dates from the 1840s and is part of the Manchester, Bolton and Bury Canal. It is made of stone and has a rectangular shape. The front face is dressed, while the other faces are rough-hewn. The milestone is inscribed with "M/7½," indicating the distance from Manchester. It is one of a series of eight milestones set at quarter-mile intervals along the canal.
