Description

This milestone, located approximately 230 meters north of Prestolee Road, dates from the 1840s and is part of the Manchester Bolton and Bury Canal. It is made of stone and has a rectangular shape. The front face is dressed, while the other faces are rough-hewn. It is inscribed with "M/8¼," indicating the distance from Manchester. This milestone is one of a series of eight, placed at quarter-mile intervals along the canal.
