Description

This milestone, located approximately 220 meters southeast of Hall Lane, dates from the 1840s and is part of the Manchester Bolton and Bury Canal. It is made of stone and features a rectangular post. The front face is dressed, while the other faces are rough-hewn. The inscription "M/8¾" indicates the distance from Manchester. This milestone is one of a series of eight, placed at quarter-mile intervals along the canal.
