Description
Rock Hall is a house, now serving as an information centre, built around 1807 for T.B. Crompton, a local paper manufacturer. The building is constructed of brick and features a slate roof. It has two storeys and five bays, with the central three bays projecting forward under a pediment. The structure includes a stone base and a top cornice. The windows are fitted with gauged-brick flat arches and are sashed with glazing bars. The round-headed entrance features a glazed doorcase, a fanlight with glazing bars, and paired doors with three fielded panels. There are gable-end stacks. A 20th-century rear extension has been added, which is of no special interest. Inside, one room has a festoon frieze, while another room features a fireplace with Ionic columns.
