Description

The gates and gate piers to the west of St. John's Church date from around 1826, although the gates themselves may be from a later period. They are constructed from stone and wrought iron. The gate piers feature bases, nook shafts, and rectangular traceried panels on both the front and rear, topped with caps that have embattled mouldings. The paired gates are adorned with intricate wrought-iron decoration. Short sections of rock-faced wall connect the gate piers to similar wall piers, with the right end pier also displaying traceried panels. This structure is included for its group value with the church.
