Description
This milestone, dating from the 1840s, is located approximately 50 meters south of the Prestolee Aqueduct on the Manchester, Bolton and Bury Canal. It is made of stone and has a rectangular shape. The front face is dressed, while the other sides are rough-hewn. The milestone is inscribed with "M/7¾," indicating the distance from Manchester. It is one of a series of eight milestones set at quarter-mile intervals along the canal.
