Description
The Education Office, located at 84 Sankey Street, is a Grade II listed building that was originally a vicarage. This 18th-century detached house stands three storeys tall, built of brick on a stone base, featuring a wooden eaves cornice and a small frieze. The façade includes five sash windows, with a moulded stone architrave around the central window and plain architraves on the others; all have brick heads and stone sills. The entrance boasts a six-panel octagonal door with a stone surround, flanked by three-quarter Roman Doric columns and a pediment, topped with a semi-circular fanlight. The building is part of a group that includes Nos 76 to 86, which comprises the Borough Treasurer's Office, Bank House, and the Town Hall, along with its eastern and western outbuildings, entrance gates, piers, and lamps on the east and west drives.
