Description
The Health Office is an 18th-century detached house located on Sankey Street. It is built of brick on a stone base and has three storeys, featuring an eaves cornice and a single stone string course. The building has a slight central projection topped with a pediment. The entrance is located in a slight segmental-headed recess and consists of a four-panel octagonal door set in a stone doorcase, flanked by three-quarter Roman Doric columns. The doorcase is adorned with a pediment and a semi-circular fanlight with bars.
On the ground floor, there are four sash windows, while the upper floors have five sash windows, all set within architraves that have a moulded centre, flat brick heads, and stone sills. To the right side at the rear, there is a lower two-storeyed portion with a second entrance, which features flat wood pilasters and a pediment. The left-hand gable end has been rebuilt.
This building is part of a group that includes Nos 76 to 86, which houses the Borough Treasurer's Office and Bank House, as well as the Town Hall and its eastern and western outbuildings, entrance gates, piers, and lamps, forming a cohesive architectural ensemble with Nos 73, 101A, and 101B.
