Description
The Borough Treasurer's Office and Bank House, located at 1 Sankey Street, is a 18th-century building that was originally two houses. It is currently being rebuilt behind a retained facade. The structure is made of brick and features a slate roof with an eaves cornice. It has two front projections: one is half-hexagonal and the other is semi-circular with a hipped roof. The building stands two to three storeys tall and has sash windows, including three triple windows in the semi-circular projection, which have stone heads.
There are two entrances; the left-hand entrance features a panelled door with a semi-circular fanlight set in a wooden case, supported by three-quarter Roman Doric columns and topped with a dentilled pediment. The right-hand doorway is plain and more recent.
The Borough Treasurer's Office and Bank House, along with the Town Hall and its eastern and western outbuildings, entrance gates, piers, and lamps, form a group with Nos 73, 101A, and 101B.
