Description

The turnpike milepost located between number 453 and number 455 on Chester Road is from the early to mid-19th century. It features a cast-iron column with an elliptical plaque on the shaft that reads "SANDIWAY S&H M." The column has a domed top that supports a curving rectangular plate, which indicates the distances to Chester and Northwich, stating "CHESTER NORTHWICH 15 2 ½ MILES MILES KELSALL 7." Similar mileposts from this series can also be found in the nearby parishes of Oakmere and Delamere.
