Description
The Round Tower is a former lodge to Vale Royal Abbey, now disused, built in the early 19th century for Lord Delamere. It is constructed of red sandstone ashlar and has no surviving roof. The tower is circular and consists of two storeys. It features a plinth and an embattled parapet supported by a corbel table. The structure includes blocked lancet windows with label moulds and a two-centred arched doorway that still has remnants of the original studded door below. Above the doorway are cross-loopholes. An 1812 print by Musgrave in a private collection depicts the tower along with a set of gates that provided access to the drive through the New Park.
